Flor og Fjære

A visit to Flor og Fjære (see http://www.florogfjare.no/ ) is always nice...especially when the weather is perfect. We got a tour of the garden, got some food and I took some pictures with my new Canon EOS 450D camera. I'll post a review of the homepage :-)

Ready for å boat trip

Ready to get on board the Flor og Fjære boat.

Having a drink with the family

Marie, Grethe and mum at lille Hansen hjørna

Nice little yacht

This "tiny" yacht called Mylin IV is visiting Stavanger at the moment. According to the newspaper it belongs to Micky Arison...the guy who runs Carnival Cruise Lines and owns NBA's Miami Heat. Hey Micky...I would love to get a tour of the ship one day :-)

Town is back to normal after gladmat

Jon Vidar wore me out with the tennis

Trying tennis for the first time in 20 years

Jon Vidar (aka Rafael Nadal) and Gard (aka Roger Federer) at the tennis court at Sola. It was a shame that we didn't have any spectators because the entertainment value was priceless :-)

The family is over

We brought out a game to keep us entertained :-)

Lighting up the barbecue

The weather is perfect as it is sunny and at least 25 degrees. So at 5 pm we lit up the barbecue...the only problem was that the big barbecue took a looooong time to get going. But in the end we did get to eat :-)

Hellestø beach

There were quite a lot of people at Hellestø beach. This is just one of the nice sandy beaches just outside Stavanger. We also had a swim and it was refreshing :-)

My mum also got a tattoo

It is a dragonfly on her leg.

I guess it runs in the family

Another beautiful day

Scott and I had an ice cold beer at the Gladmat festival

A short summary of dinner at Extreme Dinners

So Nikki, Isioma and I went to Extreme Dinners by Kjartan Kjetland and we went for the Meny Arrabiata...a 16 course spoon menu (I'll get back to that :-) We had to wait for 1/2 hour as the previous bunch of people were not done yet but at about 9.30 we were ready to go to our table.

We first of all got a glass of champagne (Champagne Brut Carte d´or, Gaidoz-Forget) and were seated in the tent that acts as a temporary restaurant during the Gladmat festival.

And then we got started on the menu...16 different courses...each course served on a single spoon. It doesn't sound like much but when you get 16 dishes with lots of wine on the side it is enough to fill you up :-)
I have attached the menu here but this is a short summary what we went through: caviar, Terrine of Foie Gras, Tartar of smoked salmon, Prawn cocktail, Poached langoustine, fried scallops, fresh mussels, Bollinos med aioli and sun dried tomatoes, Fried monkfish, Confit of chicken,Breast of duck,Braised shoulder of lamb,Steak Mosimann etc

We had a very nice selection of wine and I was very impressed by the Domaine de Pajot 2007, Cotes Du Gascogne that we had to start with. I'm not a great fan of white win but this was excellent.
In the end we also talked to the chef Kjartan Kjetland and we asked him were the kitchen was in this temporary restaurant-tent and he just pointed over to a small corner of the tent and said "That's it"...very impressive indeed. So when are you coming to Stavanger to establish a restaurant here Kjartan?? Anyway, thanks for a lovely evening with good food and good wine :-)

We have started our extreme dinner

With a glass of champagne

This should take a while to get ready. Why didn't they start earlier on in the festival?

Jone got a tatoo

I'm not sure I would have done it . It is a tribute to his favourite band...Kaizers Orchestra (see http://www.kaizers.no/ )

Almost like being in Spain

Having a Spanish San Miguel in the sun at home....while reading a book I got from mt mother-in-law: Some of my best friends are white by Ndumiso Ngcobo.

On a nice summer day like this

Jaws

Having a meal at Craigs

So Craigs did have more to offer than just fish soup :-) Craigs is one of the better restaurants in town (see http://www.craigs.no). We had meat that was cooked slowly for hours together with a potato salad, coleslaw and a sausage.

Ronny og Bjørghild

We walked around with Ronny and Bjørhild for a while :-)

Biking around Stokkavannet

My small tribute to the Tour de France guys :).. I don't envy them . I'm very impressed that Thor Hushovd and Kurt Asle Arvesen can bike for three weeks! Now I only have about 10 km to get back home :-)

I'm now a Flying Blue Petroleum member

This means that I can get access to the airport lounge at e.g. Schiphol when flying KLM/AirFrance :-)

A sausage from Idsøe

Is almost as good as a South African boerwors (or just wors these days)...almost :) . We got to Idsøe quite often to buy various meat products. Check out what they can offer on http://idsoe.no/

I had flag duty today

So I had to hoist this huge flag at 8 am

I got birthday presents

It was from Mie and the gang. Notice the 007 cuff links :). I guess I have to wear them to a James Bond movie :).

Going to the movies

We had a salad at ChocoBoco first before we went to see Forgetting Sarha Marshall (see http://www.forgettingsarahmarshall.com/). I didn't have any expectations but it was actually quite amusing. And I was surprised to see full frontal male nudity...in an American movie!!

Nikki is home again

Nikki came back from South Africa tonight. She has been gone since July 1st and she went to South Africa to attend her grandmothers funeral.

Playing squash with Jon Vidar

I played squash with Jon Vidar today. I think he was playing mind games with me as he was wearing a Ronaldinho shirt. But I have to say (and no offense to you Jon Vidar) he was not the Ronaldinho of the squash court today...I suspect that there has been too many festivals, too many large beers and too many Cuban cigars. I guess you have to get back to the basic training JV :-)
