We saw the dark knight tonight

Featuring Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and of course Heath Ledger in his last movie before he died. It was a good movie and a worthy followup to Batman Begins.

and so the question stands: was Heath Ledger’s performance Oscar nomination worthy? In the first half of the film I felt compelled to run with him - hurtling down a frenzied road of what seemed like spontaneous, off-his-rocker actions. He had my eyes welling at his sob story about the origin of his scarring. He had me both chuckling (at his apparent genius madness) and feeling uneasy at his apparent blasé attitude. He had some really riveting moments and was most certainly the star of the show - not an easy task with a co-starring role to Christian Bale’s Batman. He had me. In the first half of the film.
The second half offered other distractions and his star began to fade - especially when his whole physical/psychotic being revealed himself to be a well orchestrated, fiendish, almost (dare I say it?) suicidal character. Heather Ledger definitely did Jack Nicholson proud. His final role was nothing to be ashamed of - if anything, his true acting talents were unravelled in a way past characters only barely touched upon.
